In December 2019, the city of Wuhan in Hubei province, China was struck with a new strain of coronavirus. In the days to come, the infectious disease became a widespread pandemic which eventually led to a city lockdown in January 2020.
Amidst the lockdown and increasing number of cases, the people of Wuhan are faced with a scarcity of medical supplies, protective gear, and even food. Citizens of Wuhan, in the thick of an epidemic, have nowhere to go and very little means to protect themselves. Healthcare workers are at a high risk of falling prey to this virus.
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon Him) said:
Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter.
Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter.

Islam is a holistic belief system that cares for the welfare of individuals as well as communities, regardless of their own belief systems. Should any community be stricken with adversity and crisis, a good Muslim will step in and do anything within their means to reduce their fellow man’s suffering. It is one of the principles of our faith to show compassion to all of humankind.
