7 Beautiful Duas by Prophet Muhammad s.a.w.

“Call upon Me, I will respond to you.” (Quran 40:60) 

Dua is a very important part of being a believer. It is a form of ibadah, or worship. You will always benefit from a dua you make and there is never a time where you won’t. When you call out to Allah s.w.t, Allah has heard your dua and He will give you a reward for it. By calling out to Allah, you will achieve a rank in His eyes. 

Our Beloved Prophet Muhammad s.a.w. was in constant remembrance of Allah s.w.t. He would supplicate to Allah in every situation and would teach his companions to do the same as remembering Allah s.w.t means connecting to Him. When faced with trials and tribulations, the Prophet s.a.w prayed to Allah through constant invocations, with the language of love and servanthood.

There are hundreds of duas that Prophet Muhammad s.a.w used to say in his daily life, but here we have selected 7 beautiful duas recited by him, the best of creation: 

1. When he asked for relief, assistance and salvation from danger or distress

يَا حَيُّ يَا قَيُّوْمُ بِرَحْمَتِكَ أَسْتَغِيْث

“O Living and Eternal Sustainer! By Your mercy I seek relief!” – (Tirmidhi)

2. To ask our Merciful Lord to make our affairs easy

اللّهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إلا ما جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلا وَأنتَ تَجْعَلُ الحَزْنَ إذا شِئْتَ سَهْلا

“O Allah! There is no ease except that which You make easy, and indeed You, when You want, make difficulties easy.” – (Sahih Ibn Hibban)

3. A supplication he made frequently

اللَّهُمَّ آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ

“O Allah, grant us the good in this world and the good in the Hereafter and save us from the torment of Hell-Fire.” (Muslim)

4. He taught his companions to say this…

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْبُخْلِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْجُبْنِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ أَنْ نُرَدَّ إِلَى أَرْذَلِ الْعُمُرِ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الدُّنْيَا، وَعَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ ‏

“O Allah! I seek refuge with You from miserliness, and seek refuge with You from cowardice, and seek refuge with You from being brought back to (senile) geriatric old age, and seek refuge with You from the affliction of the world and from the punishment in the Hereafter.” (Bukhari)

5. When he asked for obedience

يَا مُصَرِّفَ الْقُلُوْبِ صَرِّفْ قَلْبِىْ عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ

“O Allah! The One Who turns the hearts, turn my heart towards Your obedience.” (Muslim) 

6. When he asked for beneficial knowledge

اَللّٰهُمَّ انْفَعْنِىْ بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِىْ وَ عَلِّمْنِىْ مَا يَنْفَعُنِىْ وَ زِدْنِىْ عِلْمًا

“O Allah! Benefit me through what You teach me and teach me what is beneficial for me and increase me in knowledge.” (Ibn Majah) 

7. When he was in distress

لا إلهَ إلا اللهُ العَليمُ الحَليم لا إلهَ إلا اللهُ ربُّ العَرْشِ العَظِيْم لا إلهَ إلا اللهُ ربُّ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَرَبُّ الأَرْضِ ربُّ العَرْشِ الكَرِيْم

“There is no deity but Allah, the Knowing, the Clement. There is no deity but Allah, Lord of the Magnificent Throne. There is no deity but Allah, Lord of the heavens and Lord of the earth and Lord of the Noble Throne.” – (Bukhari)

As Muslims, we should always remind ourselves that everything happens by the will and divine wisdom of Allah s.w.t. We can find many prophetic traditions that also teach us how to pray. Some of the prayers are done routinely, in the morning or afternoon, to highlight the significance and benefits that comes with such discipline. 

The Prophets were sent by Allah s.w.t as role models, and were the best examples for mankind. We emulate them by making dua during hardship and in need, and to be in constant remembrance of Allah s.w.t.

With this, let us all aim to incorporate more duas in our everyday lives and to always remember Allah s.w.t in everything that we do.
